Description:
This tutorial explains step-by-step how to make your favorite person have nice, shiny lip gloss! This tutorial is rated as beginner skill level, it's really super easy and quite quick to make. If you want to see the final image, click here.

  1. Open up an image you would like to use. Preferably a close up of someone's face - that way you can get a good look at the lips. For this example I am using a picture of Kirsten Dunst. The image was found here.
  2. Ok, lets get on to making that shiny lip gloss. Now that you have your image open, lets go ahead and get an outline of those lips. Grab the pen tool pen tool by pressing “P” on your keyboard.
  3. Now zoom into your image by pressing “ ctrl +” on your keyboard a few times. Zoom in enough so that you can see the outlines of the lips. This is pretty important because you want to get full coverage of the lips.
  4. Make sure you have these setting on your pen tool:
  5. pen requirements
  6. Now start outlining the lips by clicking on several parts of the lips. You're image should look like this:
  7. zoomed lips
  8. Let's add some curves to those lips so they look more realistic. Do this by pressing and holding down on the pen tool in the tool bar, this image should pop up:

  9. convert
  10. Start moving your mouse around until your pen tool lines match up with that of the real lips like so:
  11. curve
  12. When you have completed that step, go ahead and click on the paths palette
    path palette
    in your layers palette.
  13. Once you are in your paths palette, look towards the bottom of your layers palette and click the “load path as a selection” icon.
  14. load path
  15. Now you have converted your path to a selection and you should now see those little “marching ants” around the lips like so:
  16. marching ants
  17. Now make a copy of that by pressing “ctrl c” (copy) and then “ctrl v” (paste) on your keyboard.
  18. Go to Filter > Artistic > Plastic Wrap and apply these settings, or whichever settings you like best.
  19. settings
  20. Now this next step is really a personal choice because you can choose between a couple of different settings. You can either choose screen or lighten to apply to this effect. I have chosen the lighten mode. And now you adjust the opacity a bit and you are done!
